Carousel

A carousel is a multi-card Instagram feed post — up to 10 images or videos swiped left-to-right.

Definition

Carousels are Instagram's highest-save format. Because they encourage sequential viewing, Instagram often re-serves them to viewers who didn't finish the first time, giving them a longer distribution tail than static posts.

How to use it

Design card 1 as a standalone hook. Cards 2–N deliver the payoff. Card N-1 is the summary; card N is the CTA.

Common mistakes

  • Weak card 1 that doesn't make anyone want to swipe
  • Inconsistent aspect ratios across cards
  • More than 8 cards — retention collapses
